Katarina Wit first started skating at five. It was not long before her talents became apparent, and in Karl-Marx-Stadt she enrolled in an institution specifically designed for children with athletic abilities. It was here that she got to know her coach Jutta Muller. Witt was able to make her mark in 1982, after she placed second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. In the years since, Witt's grace and beauty have captivated the attention of everyone. Olympic Erfolg at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's in a highly competitive contest. The victory she won four years earlier was a bit more tense. The free-skating competition, but earned the gold medal based upon her results during the compulsory figure and the short program. Witt became the first female to win in both male and female figure skating ever since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt, who made it big in the world of film and television as an actor, returned to figure skating to compete in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. Although she did not win a gold medal, Witt was a hit with the spectators. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
